According to the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention, Oregon has a higher suicide rate than the national average. According to data from 2016 about 18 per 100,000 Oregonians die by suicide each year compared to a rate of 13 people nationally. The Pamplin Media Group and other news organizations in Oregon are working together to improve how they report on suicide and self-harm. Hearing directly from Oregonians can help them better report on these topics accurately and with empathy. The purpose of this survey was to measure Oregonians experiences with suicide as they compare to ASFP national averages.
